After The Discovery Of Gold In Bc Every Prospector Swarmed In To Pan The River And Creek Beds. To Assist Governor James Douglas In Maintaining Law And Order And Building Roads And Settlements, 150 Royal Engineers Under Colonel R.C. Moody, Were Sent From England To Begin Constructing The First Section Of Wagon Road, Caribou Road, Along The Fraser Canyon. Starting At Yale In 1862, The Engineers Constructed The First Section Of The Wagon Road Stretching 400 Miles To The Mining Town Of Barkervile. In The Photo A Wall Of Rock Has Beeen Breach With Gunpowder And The Cleft Is Being Cribbed. Chinese Work In The Background.
