description: The Coalition Of The North West Co And The Hbc Was Effected In 1821, And In 1832 The Hbc Re-Established At Portage La Prairie; Building A Trading Post On The Site Of La Verendrye'S Fort. In The Rebellion Of 1869 -1870, The Employees Of The Hbc Post Were Taken Prisoners By Emissaries Of Louis Riel And The Store Looted. Some Years Later The Hbc Discontinued Operating On This Site And The Hbc Post Was Converted To A Farmhouse. The Hand Hewn Log Building Of The Store Was Stillstanding When The Farm Was Purchased By Donald H. Bain, Winnipeg Businessman In 1943.This Photo Shows The Original Hbc Trading Post And Dwelling House
