description: A Dog Is In The Foreground In Front Of This Hide-Covered, Temporary Hunting Canoe. The Land Around Is Stony. The Moosehide Canoe Was Made By A Swampy Cree Trapper In The 1940s. This Type Of Canoe Was Made In The Spring In Northern Manitoba When The Small Creeks And Rivers Were Swollen And Bark Canoes Were Not In Common Use In These Areas. This One Was About Ten Feet Long And Was Probably Dismantled After About Three Weeks Use So The Hide Could Be Reused. Canoes Of This Type Could Be Made Quickly By Letting The Hide Dry To The Shape Desired Then Reinforced By A Network Of Willow Or Ash Limbs
