On July 3, 1845 He Married Margaret Christie, A Daughter Of Alexander Christie Who Served For Two Terms As Governor Of Assiniboia. In 1862 He Was Appointed Recorder Of Rupert'S Land A Position He Held Until Manitoba Became A Province In 1870. Black Was A Member Of The Delegation Sent By The Red River Settlers To Negotiate With The Canadian Government In 1870. Recorder And Chief Trader.

He Moved To The Red River Settlement In July 1839. In March 1843 He Married Helen Rothney Of Aberdeen, Scotland. They Had Six Children And Settled In What Is Now Winnipeg In 1849, And He Carried On Business As A General Merchant And Trader. His Wife Died In 1866, And He Lived With His Daughter, Mrs. Pinkham, (The Wife Of The Bishop Of Saskatchewan ) From 1872 Until His Death In1887.
