description: First Part Of A Panoramic Photo Of His Royal Highness, The Duke Of Connaught, Governor-General Of Canada, Reviewing The Troops At Camp Sewell In Manitoba. The Duke Accompanied By His Suite And The Canadian Mounted Rifles Arrived At The Camp Sewell With Col. Elliott, Commandant Of The Camp. The Duke Inspected The Troops, Of Whom There Were About 3,500, For Over An Hour. The Number Of Troops Was Comparatively Small Because The Duke Had Suggested Troops Assist In The Bountiful Harvest. Following The Inspection, A March Past Took Place. The Duke, Surrounded By A Large Number Of Officers, Was Beside A Royal Standard, While The Troops Marched Past. The Troops Were The Fort Garry Horse, 44th, 45th, 46th, 53rd, 61st, 78th The Winnipeg Grenadiers (The Outstanding Regiment Both In Numbers, Over 1000 And In General Appearance, 79th (This Battalion Of 500 Came From Brandon And Had Trained Only For 6 Weeks But Did Very Well), 9th And 10th Canadian Mounted Rifles, 37th And 38th Field Battery, Army Service Corps And The Field Ambulance Corps. description: George Arthur French Became Second North West Mounted Police Commissioner November 18, 1873 At Age Of 32, And Held The Position Until 1876. He Was Born In Roscommon, Ireland. He Was Educated At The British Military Colleges At Sandhurst And Woolwich. His Specialty Was Artillery And He Was Posted To Canada In 1862 And Became Inspector Of Artillery And Warlike Stores. In 1871, He Was Seconded To The Canadian Militia When British Troops Withdrew From Canada And Became Commandant Of The School Of Gunnery At Kingston, On. As Nwmp Commissioner He Ordered Nine-Pounder Guns To Be Taken On The March West. After Three Years Service In The Force He Resigned To Rejoin The Royal Artillery. He Subsequently Rose To Become Commandant Of The Colonial Forces In New South Wales, Australia, With The Rank Of Major General. He Died Shortly After His 80th Birthday

description: In 1788, Lord Dorchester, Governor of Canada, invited the Chiefs ot the Mississauga to discuss the purchase of Toronto, the centre of the fur trade. The meeting took place abord the HMS "Seneca" which was anchored off the ruins of Fort Rouille, opposite the present Canadian National Exhibition grounds. Also present were Sir John Johnson, Commissioner of Indian Affairs; Colonel Buterl, veteran founder of Butler's Rangers; and Natanial Lines, interpreter. He Received Many Injuries During His Playing Career Mainly Because Of This Fearless Play. After Retiring From Active Hockey He Served As Asistant Manager Director To Frank J. Selke Of The Canadien Arena Company And Visited Many Areas On Behalf Of Hockey And Did Much Good For The Sport
