The "Hector" Was An Old Dutch Vessel Not In The Best Condition. In A Storm Off Newfoundland She Was Driven Back So Far That It Took A Fortnignt To Recover The Lost Distance. Food And Water Ran Low During The 11-Week Crossing And Sickness Claimed 18 Lives. On September 15th, A Beautiful Day, A Fraser Piper Led The Way As Men Women And Children Waded Through The Shallow Water With Their Few Possessions. In Later Years He Managed Several Hbc Posts And In 1856 Was Made Chief Trader. In 1862 He Was Placed In Charge Of Lower Fort Garry, Where He Remained Until 1864. He married the daughter of Chief Trader Alexander Murray. He joined the Company in 1859, serving at Norway House and Swan River. After retiring in 1873 he purchased a farm near Portage la Prairie. He rejoined the Company in 1875, serving at Ile-a-la-Crosse and Norway House, Lesser Slave Lake, Peace River, Michipecoten and Lake Superior.
