66813 A2163 Gait Agricultural Collection     Personnel of the British North American Boundary Commission 1873-1874. During 1873 and 1874 an Anglo-American commission surveyed and marked the boundary between Canada and the United States from Lake of the Woods to the Rocky Mountains. The trails and the supply depots established by the boundary commission were used by the NWMP on the first part of their trek westward in the summer of 1874. Among the personnel shown are: Captain D.R. Comeron (seated 3rd from the left) the British Commissioner; L.W. Herchmer (standing 4th from the Left) the Commissions Commissionary who was later commissioner of the NWMP from 1886-1900; and G.M.
