He Worked Continuously At Brandon Avenue. In February, 1940 He Received His 10 Year Service Pin When He Was Assistant Maintenance Manager In Winnipeg. In March, 1941 He Was Superintendent Of Engine Overhaul Depot At Stevenson Field. In February, 1942 He Was Appointed Maintenance Supertendent Of Central District Cpal. In May, 1942 He Transferred To Vancouver. He Retired From Position Of Director Of Maintenance And Engineering For Cpa In 1966 In Vancouver |

In September 1940 He Was Appointed Chief Pilot, Vancouver; With The Amalgamation Of Air Transport Companies In 1942 He Stayed On With Cpal And Became A Captain On The Vancouver To Whitehorse Run. He Left Cpa In 1945 To Go To Gibson'S Landing, Bc To Operate A Photographic And Ferry Boat Business. In 1956 He Returned To Aviation With Pwa And In 1959 He Was Personnel Manager In Vancouver. He Left In 1962 And Became A Self Employed Agent With Crown Life Insurance Company |

Captain Wilfrid Reid (Wop) May, Obe, Dfc, While Chief Pilot Of Commercial Airways Of Edmonton, Was Awarded The Trans Canada Trophy, By The Minister Of National Defence, For Meritorious Service In The Advancement Of Aviation In Canada During 1929, In Recognition Of His Work Organizing Air Services To Outlying Districts. He Was Born In Carberry, Mb, On March 20, 1896. He Moved To Alberta With His Parents In 1903. He Received His Training As A Mechanic With Great West Motors In 1914. He Became A Machine Gun Instructor With The Candian Expeditionary Force At The Machine Gun School In 1916. By February 1917 He Was With The 202nd City Of Edmonton Battalion And Went Overseas As A Staff Sergeant. He Joined The Royal Flying Corps When He Reached France. In March 1918 He Reported To The 209th Squadron As A Fighter Pilot. On His First Combat Flight He Shot Down An Enemy Aircraft And On Returning Home With His Guns Jammed He Was Chased By German Ace, Baron Manfred Von Richthofen, Who Was Shot By Captain Roy Brown, An Old School Chum Of Wop'S. Wop Was Awarded The Dfc For Gallantry And Returned To Canada May 1919 After The War And Started A Commercial Aviation Company In Edmonton Called May Airplanes Ltd |

He Came To Bc As A Youth And Joined The Canadian Army In 1914, Served In World War I And Was Wounded In France In 1916 And Returned To Canada Where He Began His Flying Career. He Joined The Rfc In 1917 But World War I Ended Before He Got Into Action. He Joined The Raf As A Flying Instructor In 1922 And Served In Britain Until 1928. During His Service He Helped Pioneer The First British Early Warning Detection System For Aircraft. He Was Hired By Wca May 28, 1928 Based At The Pas, Mb. In June 1929 He Was Appointed Superintendent At Prince Albert. He Was Involved In Both The Andy Taylor And Macalpine Searches. He Was Assigned To Prairie Air Mail And On March 3, 1930 Flew The Regina To Calgary Run. Then He Transferred From Lethbridge To Waterways And Flew Air Mail From Edmonton To Great Bear Lake And Camern Bay. He Was Appointed District Superintendent For Northern Manitoba. He Was Chosen To Be On The Ellsworth Trans Antarctic Flight Expedition; He Achieved International Fame For The Historic 2200 Mile Expedition And The Rcaf Made Him An Honourary Air Commodore For The Feat. He Joined Cpal In 1942 And Became The Company'S First Chief Pilot. In 1973 He Was Made A Member In The Canadian Aviation Hall Of Fame. In 1975 He Was Nominated To Order Of Icarus |
