Great Precautions Were Taken To Keep Flames From Extending To Eatons Store Across The Street. Two Lines Of Hose Were Supplied By T. Eaton Co, While The Fire Was At Its Height. The Ederton Block Was Of Modern Construction And Was Considered Almost Fireproof. It Ws Built In 1906 And Valued At $140,000. The Severe Cold Made It Doubly Hard To Keep The Apparatus From Freezing Even With The High Water Pressure, For Every Time The Firemen Changed Position The Apparatus Froze Solid. The Elements Forbade Leaving The Horses Of The Several Fire Companies Standing, So The Central Fire Hall Was Used As A Place Of Shelter.
