On Saturday, October 1, 1977, Eight Militia Units, 6 From Winnipeg, 1 From Flin Flon And 1 From Kenora, All Part Of The Winnipeg Militia District Competed For The T. Eaton Cup. This Competition Of Marching And Shooting Tested The Shooting Skills And Physical Fitness Of The District Units. The Competition Was Conducted In 4 Phases. First A Rigorous Inspection Of Personnel, Kit And Weapon Conducted By Captain J. Magee And His Staff From Cfb Winnipeg. Second A Route March To Be Completed In 140 Minutes With One Compulsory Halt, Winding Along The Perimeter Highway And Stopping At St. Charles Range. Third A Tough Obstacle Course Leading To The Final Phase, A Rifle Competition Shoot. Teams Lost Points In All Phases For Failure To Adhere To Established Standards Of Military Training With Extra Deductions For Time Faults Or Loss Of Equipment
