description: Rev & Mrs. James S. Nisbet, Missionary And His Wife Who Was Mary Macbeth, Daughter Of Hon. Robert Macbeth, A Member Of The Council Of Assiniboia. James Nisbet Was Born In The Parish Of Gorbals, Glasgow, The Son Of Thomas Nisbet, A Glasgow Shipbuilder. James At 15 Was A Sabbath School Superintendent. In 1845 He Came To Canada And Devoted Himself To The Ministry Entering Knox College, Toronto And Was Ordained As The First Pastor Of Oakville, Canada West In 1850. In 1862 He Was Sent To The Red River To Assist Rev. James Black. In 1864 He Married Mary Mcbeth. Under His Direction A New Stone Parish Schoolhouse Was Built That Served The Educational Needs Of Kildonan Until 1904. In 1866 He Was Appointed Missionalry To The Indians (Aboriginals) Of Saskatchewan. He Settled On The North Bank Of The Saskatchewan River At A Place He Named Prince Albert In Honour Of The Prince Consort Who Had Died. Then He Began Teaching The Aboriginals About A Settled Life. The Mission Attracted White Settlers And Prince Albert Became A Flourishing Settlement. Exhausted He And Mary Returned To Kildonan In 1874 And He Died September 30th.
