| description: | Macdonald was born at Glen Quoich, Invernesshire, Scotland. He married the daughter of Chief Trader Alexander Murray. He joined the Company in 1859, serving at Norway House and Swan River. After retiring in 1873 he purchased a farm near Portage la Prairie. He rejoined the Company in 1875, serving at Ile-a-la-Crosse and Norway House, Lesser Slave Lake, Peace River, Michipecoten and Lake Superior. He retired from the Hudson's Bay Company in 1905, residing first at Prince Albert and later at Victoria, British Columbia where he died in 1909. |
