description: Commissioner Acheson Gosford Irvine Was The First Native Canadian To Command The Nwmp Force. He Was Born In Quebec City On December 7, 1837. He Served With The Militia In The Red River Expedition Of 1870. From 1871-1875 He Commanded The Provisional Battalion Of Rifles Posted In Manitoba. In 1875 He Was Appointed Superintendent Of The North West Mounted Police (Nwmp) . He Served As Commissioner From 1880 - 1886. Following Retirement From The Force In 1886, He Served As Warden Of Stony Mountain Penitentiary For Many Years. He Died In Quebec City In 1916
