description: June 21, About 3:45 Pm, As Special Constables Armed With Clubs Marched To Clear The Streets, Some Members Of The Crowd Set Fire To A Streetcar. Special Constables Are Stationed Across The Street To Prevent Crowds From Returning & To Guard The Volunteer Firemen Trying To Put Out Fire In Streetcar. One Former Special Constable Recalls, "There Were Several Hundred University Students Who Had Been Recuited As Night Watchmen...And We Got Drawn Into This. The Specials Were Kept In The Rupert Street Police Station Until After The Mounted Police Had Formed Up. The Mounties Were Well Ahead Of Us, And Had Already Shot. We Could See Them Coming Back, About Two Or Three Blocks Towards Portage And Main From Us... We Came Out, And Marched From Our Building Clear Across Main Street To The City Hall."
