description: Fort Whoop-Up. In 1869, Two Traders From Fort Benton, Joe Healy And Al Hamilton, Built A Trading Post At The Junction Of The Belly And St. Mary'S Rivers, Southwest Of The Present City Of Lethbridge, Ab. The Following Year, It Was Partially Burned By Fire And A New Building Was Constructed About 300 Feet North Of The Original Site. First Called Fort Hamilton, It Was Soon Known As Fort Whoop-Up, The Most Notorious Of The Whiskey Forts Where Whiskey Pedlars And Other Unscrupulous White Men Traded With The Indians (Aboriginals). Here A Group Of Blood Indians Are Shown Outside The Fort While Overhead Flies The Flag Of One Of The Trading Companies
