description: Dr. John Bunn. Born 1800 In Rupert'S Land Where His Father Thomas Was In Service Of Hudson'S Bay Co. His Mother Was The Daughter Of John Mcnab, Engineer In Charge Of A Company Post On The Bay. He Received Medical Education In Edinburgh In 1817 - 1819 But Stopped His Studies In 1819 To Return To Canada Where He Served The Hbc Until 1823. In 1829 He Married Catherine Thomas And Had 3 Sons. In 1831 -1832 John Bunn Continued His Medical Studies At Edinburgh University, After Which He Returned To Practice Medicine In Middlechurch, Mb. He Was First Native Born Physician To Serve Red River Colony. He Was Prominent In Community Life, Being A Member Of The Council Of Assiniboia In 1835, And Holding The Offices Of Coroner, Sheriff, Clerk Of Thecourt, Recorder, Magistrate And Governor Of The Jail. He Died On May 31, 1861 At Upper Fort Garry
