description: Hugh John MacDonald house at 61 Carlton Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Hugh John MacDonald served briefly as Premier of Manitoba. His father was the first Prime Minister of Canada, Sir John A. MacDonald. The house was built for Hugh John MacDonald in 1895 and he named it "Dalnavert" because his maternal grandparents lived in Dalnavert, Scotland. The house is now a museum "Dalnavert" which was restored and refurnished.
