description: First Clubhouse At St. Charles Country Club Built In 1905, Was Officially Opened Oct 11, 1905 By The Governor-General Of Canada, Earl Grey. During Its Early Years A Private Trolley Line Carried Passengers From The Portage Avenue Car Line To The Club. Polo Was One Of The Games Played There. It Later Burned To The Ground On The Night Of March 24 And Into March25, 1910. People Watched Helplessly As The Building Of Wood And Stucco Went Up In Smoke Since There Was Very Little Firefighting Equipment In The District
