description: David Lewis, Politician, Born June 23, 1909 In Swislocz, Poland; Educated At Mcgill University; A Rhodes Scholar At Oxford University; Was The First Canadian President Of The Student'S Union. He Was Called To The Bar In 1936. He Served As National Secretary Of Ccf Party (1937 - 1950). In 1950 He Joined A Toronto Law Firm, And Was Named Qc In 1957. He Was Chosen National President Of Ccf Party In 1958 And When The Party Became The Ndp In 1961 He Was National Vice President Until 1971. He Was First Elected In House Of Commons In June 1962, Defeated The Following Year; Elected In York South In 1965 And Re-Elected In Succeeding Elections. He Was Chosen Leader Of The Ndp In April 1971 Convention; Was Defeated In 1974 Federal Election And Succeeded As Party Leader By Ed Broadbent. Photo Shows David Lewis And T.C.
