Duff Roblin, Manitoba'S Premier Playing Squash At The Winnipeg Squash Club. Duff Roblin, Born June 17, 1917 Son Of C.D. Roblin And Sophia May (Murdock) , And Grandson Of Hon. Sir R.P. Roblin, Premier Of Manitoba From 1900 To 1915. Duff Was Educated In Winnipeg Schools, St. John'S College, U Of Manitoba, And U Of Chicago. He Served In Ww Ii For Six Years (Four Years Overseas) With The Royal Canadian Air Force, Retiring With Rank Of Wing Commander. He Was Elected To Manitoba Legislature In 1949; Re- Elected In 1953, 1958, 1959, And 1962. He Became Progressive Conservative Leader Of Manitoba On June 18, 1954. He Was Sworn In As Premier, President Of The Council, Minister Of Dominion Provincial Relations June 30, 1958. He Married Mary Mackay Aug. 30, 1958 And They Had A Son And Daughter. He Was Acting Provincial Treasurer And Minister Charged With Administration Of The Insurance Act, June 30, 1958 - July 22, 1966. The Red River Floodway (Duff'S Ditch) Came Into Being Due To The Inspiration And Efforts Of Duff Roblin. He Resigned As Manitoba Premier Nov. 27, 1967. He Became A Member Of The Privy Council 1967. He Was Named Companion Of The Order Of Canada, June 1970. He Has Honourary Degrees From U Of Manitoba, Mcgill University And U Of Winnipeg |
