Oldfield, who bought several downtown properties while he lived in England. He died in Winnipeg in 1929. In 1946, his executors called for cash tenders for the purchase of the block. That was the first time Portage Avenue property had been sold in that manner. It was sold to Ernest Cholakis of Broadway Florists. He died in 1971 but his son Leo and other members of the family firm built a high rise building on the site and this building was called the Kensington Building also. |
